Hypocalcemia: What are The Causes and Symptoms of Calcium Deficiency?

Calcium deficiency is also known as Hypocalcemia. It affects the functioning of the body because calcium storage capacity of body depletes.  Deficiency of calcium is due to the when most of the calcium is lost in urine and not enough calcium is moved from bones in the blood.

If it is not cured for long time, results can be worse. There are risks of Osteoporosis, dental changes and can also lead to death.

Hypocalcemia occurs when the body is not receiving enough calcium externally and body depends on calcium that is store in bones. And after some tome this calcium depletes and the problem of Hypocalcemia arises.

There are various causes that are responsible for low calcium in body:

  1. Vitamin D deficiency
  2. Absence of Thyroid gland
  3. Kidney disease
  4. Deficiency of Magnesium
  5. Intake of High Sodium and Phosphorous

Early there are no symptoms. Below are some symptoms that reflects when disease thrives:

1.Sluggishness

People with calcium deficiency suffer from:

  • Fatigue
  • Lethargy
  • Energy depletion
  • Fainting

Sometimes deficiency of calcium leads to depression, heart failure and memory loss.

2. Muscle Aches

Muscle Aches, pain are the early symptoms that people feel. People often feel pain in hand, arms and sometimes in underarm. Calcium deficiency tends to numbness in hand, feet and face.

 3. Skin and Nail Problems

Calcium deficiency also affects skin and nail. if your nails are brittle and not growing properly, this is the most common symptom. There are certain white dots or spots on nail in case of calcium deficiency. Skin becomes dry and itchy. There is redness, allergies on face and other parts of body.

 Deficiency of calcium in infants stops tooth formation. It also causes
